Longshed at Canalside | Buffalo

Architect: HHL Architects

Owner: Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation

Project Start: 2018

Project Completion: 2019

Budget: $6M

Savarino Co served as the construction manager for the Longshed, a two-story, 5,000-square-foot structure at Buffalo’s Canalside. Designed to evoke the historic canal-era buildings that once lined the Erie Canal, the facility originally housed the construction of a full-scale replica of the 1825 packet boat Seneca Chief.

In 2025, the Longshed became home to a museum exhibit exploring Canalside’s layered history — from its roots as Haudenosaunee land to its growth as a 19th-century port —while centering diverse perspectives shaped by the canal’s development.
